THE BROWNMILLER GROUP

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions does career counseling involve?

We tailor our counseling to whatever the client needs and so there is no set number of sessions involved.  We average about three to five sessions with our clients and they can be spaced out in whatever time frame meets the client’s needs.  There is no obligation to continue with the counseling at any point.

What methods of payment do you accept for your services?

Our clients pay by cash, check or credit card at the end of each appointment.

Do you specialize in any particular kind of client?

Our clients are people of all ages and stages:

  • career changers
  • employees who feel stuck in a dead end job
  • people who are thinking of going back to school
  • recent grads
  • individuals who have been restructured out of a job
  • anyone who wants a career rather than just a job

Is the testing done during the sessions?

No.  The tests we administer are actually done at home.  We’ll send you a link so that you can go online to do the assessments.  Usually we send you this link during the first appointment so that we will have your results ready for the second appointment.

Do you give your clients information about specific jobs that are available or specific networking contacts?

We are careful that clients who come to The BrownMiller Group understand that we are not a recruiter or a headhunter and so we don’t provide placement into specific positions.  However, since we have been doing career counseling in this community for 20+ years, we often have ideas of contacts it would be valuable to talk to or companies it would be smart to consider.  We are happy to share these ideas with you.

Do you write resumes for people?

We take a collaborative and hands on approach to the resume assistance we provide our clients.  We will edit an existing draft or if you do not have a current resume, we will introduce you to the format that we believe works best for your career target and guide you through the process of writing the resume.  But at the end of the day, we want you to write your own resume.  Thinking it through is a valuable process and the self awareness this process creates helps you position yourself during interviews and networking interactions.

By the way, why do you describe your career counseling as exceptional?

So glad you asked:

…Because our business model has always been to only hire Licensed Professional Counselors who have experience in career counseling and job search coaching.

…Because we avoid a “one size fits all” mentality like the plague.  You are uniquely who you are, with your own set of career related needs and life experiences.  We want to tailor our approach to your situation.

…Because the mission of the BrownMiller Group is to provide services of the highest quality grounded in a deep well of respect and kindness.

What Our Clients Say

You were really the catalyst for this change and I feel that everything has gone exactly as I had hoped. I will keep you posted on my progress, but I wanted to let you know how much I value and appreciate the excellent advice and guidance you provided. You really helped me zero in on what I wanted to do and helped me with a road map to get there. Without your guidance and advice, no telling where I’d be right now.

Thanks for your continued support. After talking to you I ended up having a sense of calmness that I hadn't had all day.

Please know, in these uncertain times, you are so much more than just a professional career guidance counselor. You are a healer who knows how to gently hold shattered dreams and broken hearts in your hands. Thank you for your kind ways of empowering and motivating me to believe in myself.

I LOVE my new job and cannot thank you enough for everything. It has been the hardest thing I have ever done in my life but so worth it.
